Yesterday’s Phenology: Another delightful day of overcast sky and wet coldness. Rained during the night and rained during the morning and I’m SO glad that we didn’t get the freezing variety of rain that they received up Nort. Thank you very much. Things are very much green, but it turned colder during the day, and is 37 as I get ready for bed. Snow in April and May is certainly not unusual.

little miracles

Yesterday’s Phenology: A delightful day. Overcast and cooler. Rain arrived on schedule, a little misting rain at first, and then a regular steady rain, and then more rain. Eskimos have 50 words for snow. I wonder if they have 50 words for rain in the tropics? Anyway, what we have here is a “soaker.” A nice gentle rain that lasts a long time. Just what Dr. Spring ordered.

Song of the day: the Beatles, Rain

early morning fog

Yesterday’s Phenology: In the upper 40s in the early morning, a bit chilly on the bike. Warmed up a bit as day wore on , but still, mostly cloudy and cool, with some gusty breezes.

Song of the day: the Beatles, Hey Jude

big bike bug

Yesterday’s Phenology: Another cool cloudy spring day. Temp just nudged up to 50 degrees. Blue Jays are looking at things very critically, these days. They are vainglorious posers who are never around when there is real work to be done, but they love to complain about things.
Well, maybe they are not all like that.

Song of the day: Harry James and his Orchestra, When Your Lover Has Gone

the bicycle bugs are out…

Yesterday’s Phenology: This has been a pretty nice spring! This morning, in the 40s. Maybe it got up into the 50s today. Rained a lot in the morning, cloudy afternoon, and then more rain and a bit of thunder in the evening. Big buds are opening up everywhere.

Song of the day: Count Basie and his Orchestra, One O’Clock Jump

morning flight

Yesterday’s Phenology: Another nice rainy day, until the afternoon, when it stopped raining, and then the sun peeked out a bit. Nice to get the rain. Noticed a ruckus up in the trees as I walked Flynn in the late afternoon, birds, excited, and then a hawk flew out of a spruce and away.

Song of the Day: Spencer Davis Group, Gimme Some Lovin’

spring flowers in Bikeland

Yesterday’s Phenology: Unseemingly sunny and cheery out side. Temps in the upper 50s. Razorback pigs are shedding their winter coats, boots, and mittens as they root around in the alleys, looking for the early spring truffles, or whatever else they can find. Their melodious grunting and snuffling reminds us all that it’s springtime in the heartland and that we should ought to be enjoying it.

Song of the day: the Beatles, Taxman
